- 1 yellow onion (medium, chopped)
- 4 cloves garlic (chopped)
- 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper

- 1 3/4 cups canned cannellini beans (cooked or no-salt-added, drained and rinsed, from one 14.5-ounce can)
- 28 oz. crushed tomatoes (or pureed)
- 1/2 cup oil (pitted, packed black olives, chopped, may substitute Kalamata olives)
- 1/4 cup salt (packed capers, soaked in warm water for at least 15 minutes and drained, see headnote)
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley leaves (lightly packed, chopped, plus more for garnish)
- 2 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
- 1 lb. spaghetti (dried)
