We made this dish to take to a New Year's Day party. Doubled the recipe to serve 12. It seemed to me to be missing something so I added about 1/2 cup of cooked onions and about 1/2 lb of cooked bacon. I added these pre-cooked because the rest of the dish had already been cooking for 5 hours and I was adding these at the end. The dish was well received. It was quite good. I may try adding chopped collard greens next time to make it an even more complete one-dish meal.
