Gross. Thank God I tasted as I was making it. I Saved the shipwreck. Needed way more seasonings and omitted the nasty canned soup. Put pizza sauce instead. I used diced red potatoes and no rice. Mixed mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Added sautéed mushrooms. I ended up with something like a crustless pizza.

Shipwreck Casserole is a name that attracts the curious or repels the wary. Just as the author suggested, I substituted -- ground turkey for beef, fresh basil for ground basil, reduced the additional liquids and spiced-it-up. It turned out great. It satisfied a couple of picky eaters twice, dinner and left overs.
