- 1 1/2 lb. ground beef (ground lamb, substituted is fine)
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 yellow onion (large)
- 1 carrot (large)
- 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme
- 2 Tbsp. worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup chicken stock
- 1 cup red wine (get a bottle that is cheap and dry enough to cook with, but good enough to drink the rest.)
- 8 oz. tomato (purree paste is fine too)
- 5 medium potatoes
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 stick melted butter
- 2 whole egg yolks
- 8 oz. grated Parmesan (fresh)
- 1 Tbsp. garlic salt (optional)
- 2 tsp. salt (not needed if using garlic salt)
- 2 tsp. pepper

Turned out great ! So tasty I did ground beef instead - next time I would use more potatoes for my personal preference

Great saint Patrick's day dinner! Made it with ground turkey and this was a lighter but very hearty dish. I added shredded carrots and a can of peas to add more vegetables.

This Sheppards pie is fantastic, I'm from the UK and this is up there with the best I've had. I sometimes make it with combination of beef and lamb but I've made it all 3 ways, combo or just beef or lamb and it's great always, I do chop the onion versus grading it because I personally like the onion texture, it's a big hit in our house people come over just to enjoy it with us, I highly recommend making this sheppards pie.
