The sodium content in these is already so high, 40% of your daily value according to the author, that once you sprinkle salt on top it's a bit overpowering. I expected this and served them as an appetizer before a milky vegetarian soup. They were pretty good, but perhaps would be better made from scratch where you could control the biscuit dough's salt content a bit more. I tried brushing butter on them as they came out of the oven and it's not worth bothering with. It was an indistinguishable effort. I only made 1/3 of the recipe, but using the full amount of water and baking soda and it worked perfectly fine. They also reheat well. 250* for ten minutes starting with a cold oven. I just set them straight onto the racks. Heat longer if you want them nice and hot. They do lose their pretzel texture once refrigerated though and resume being like a biscuit.
