I followed the directions and these needed something more. So I fired up my BBQ grill and seared these for about 3 minutes at very high heat. This made for a perfect burnt edge look and taste. I added some hickory smoke flavor to the olive oil on half of the pieces before spreading oil on artichokes. This made the flavor so much better on that half. The aioli sauce was way more garlic flavor than we prefer. I added smoke sauce to the aioli and this really helped kill some of the garlic flavor. Next time I will try totally different sauce. This was my first attempt at making artichokes at home and was overall pleased. My other artichoke experiences were from high end restaurants.
