- 1/2 cup cake flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 3/4 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 Tbsp. white vinegar
- 1 tsp. butter (vanilla, emulsion, or 1-1/2 tsp vanilla extract)
- 1 pinch vanilla beans (optional)
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 1/2 Tbsp. cocoa powder
- 1 Tbsp. red food coloring
- 6 Tbsp. unsalted butter (diced and cold)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 8 oz. cream cheese (at room temperature)
- 1 cup powdered sugar (sifted)
- 2 tsp. vanilla bean paste (or a pinch of dry vanilla beans, you can use vanilla extract here as well, but I like the look of the vanilla beans in the frosting rather than just an off-white frosting)
- 2 Tbsp. half & half
