- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup buttermilk (or Powdered Buttermilk, use 2 1/2 tablespoons + 2/3 cup water)
- 1/2 cup canola oil
- 2 Tbsp. vanilla Greek yogurt (plain Greek yogurt or sour cream may be substituted)
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 Tbsp. natural cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 3/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1 pinch salt (optional and to taste)
- 2 Tbsp. red food coloring (or as needed)
- 1/2 cup cream cheese (softened, I used Trader Joe’s soft spreadable light)
- 2 Tbsp. unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar (or as necessary)
- cream (splash, or milk, only if necessary)
- sanding sugar (or sprinkles, optional for garnishing)
