This shine is fantastic and turned out much better than I had hoped! It's Thanksgiving in a jar, or even Christmas, for that matter! I gave this 5 stars based on taste alone. However, the authorship of the recipe could use some tweaks, so I will comment on that to clarify some things.
First off, the recipe contradicts itself regarding the alcohol amounts. I used the amount listed on the ingredient list, which worked fine, but in the directions it states, "It’s made with an entire bottle of 190 proof grain alcohol and an entire bottle of vodka. ". If you used the whole bottle of either spirit in this batch, it would be undrinkable. Stick to what it says in the ingredient list. By the way, I used an off brand of Everclear (that was sold out at the time) which worked just fine. Pinnacle Whipped Cream vodka was my choice for that one.
Second, I tried really hard to filter this using a cheese cloth but it was just too thick. I even dropped it down to one layer and it was still a VERY slow drip. I ended up not filtering it at all. As long as you shake it up before you pass the jar around, you will be just fine. However, unless you like an overload of pumpkin pie spices, I would not recommend drinking all of that sludge at the bottom of the jar.
I ended up calling this "Pilgrim Punch" and shared it with the neighbors!
