- 2 star anise
- 1 cup fried shallots
- 1/4 cup Shaoxing wine
- 2 Tbsp. dark soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp. light soy sauce (more to taste later)
- 1/4 cup rock sugar (or use brown sugar)
- 2 cups hot water
- 2 Tbsp. corn starch (+ 3 Tbsp of water)
