  • 2 onions (medium, diced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced or pressed through a garlic press)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ground coriander
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 4 cups water
  • 14 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • salt

  • 1 pound spaghetti (dried, cooked according to package directions in salted water)
