  • 1 cup split pea (dried yellow)
  • 1 yellow onion (medium, finely chopped)
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 piece ginger (finely chopped)
  • 2 dried red chile peppers
  • 1 large tomato (finely chopped)
  • yellow mustard seed (¼ tsp whole)
  • 2 curry leaves (optional)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander seed (whole)
  • 1 tablespoon cumin seed (whole)
  • 2 teaspoons Garam Masala (I used my homemade recipe)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 cups water (or 1 lt, or low sodium & no MSG vegetable broth)
