- 4 medium potatoes (the weight was around 1 lb or 500gm, peeled and cut into equal sizes)
- 1 cup split pea (dried yellow)
- 1 yellow onion (medium, finely chopped)
- 3 garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 piece ginger (finely chopped)
- 2 dried red chile peppers
- 1 large tomato (finely chopped)
- yellow mustard seed (¼ tsp whole)
- 2 curry leaves (optional)
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/2 tsp. coriander seed (whole)
- 1 Tbsp. cumin seed (whole)
- 2 tsp. Garam Masala (I used my homemade recipe)
- 1 tsp. turmeric powder
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
- 4 cups water (or 1 lt, or low sodium & no MSG vegetable broth)
- chopped cilantro (freshly, to taste)
