- 1 3/4 cups water
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 lb. beans (these can be black beans or Salvadoran red beans/frijoles rojos de seda.)
- 1 medium onion (peeled and cut in quarters)
- 3 cloves garlic (peeled)

- 3/4 cup green pepper (diced)
- 1 Roma tomato (large, diced)
- 1/2 cup onion (diced)
- 2 Tbsp. canola oil
- 2 cups cooked rice
- 1 cup beans (cooked)
- 1/2 cup broth (bean, the liquid from cooking the beans)
- salt (to taste)
- 1 platano (should be yellow with many black markings)
- oil (for cooking)
