- 1 medium onion (halved and thinly sliced)
- 4 green chillies (slit, as per taste)
- 1 1/2 tsp. ginger paste (or 1½ inch fresh Ginger, peeled and minced or grated)

- 3 Tbsp. ghee (Desi, Clarified Butter or Oil, or combination of ghee and oil)
- salt (to taste)
- 1 1/2 inches canela
- 4 cloves (lightly bruised)
- 5 green cardamoms (lightly crushed)
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 star anise
- 1 tsp. jeera (/Cumin Seeds)
- 1/2 tsp. saunf (/Fennel Seeds, Optional)
