Bland. So very bland. The chicken gets steamed so it doesn't get any of the flavor from the spices. Not even from the thyme. The fennel and shallots were lost in it somewhere. There was no liquid in it to baste the chicken at the 45 minute point. I don't even know where I would start to rescue this recipe.

This was really delicious full of subtle flavors, especially from the turmeric and fennel, I substituted the potatoes for cauliflower which paired perfectly with the spices. The result was a slightly thinner sauce. Since the meat falls off the bone I ended up deboning the chicken and pulled it apart with two forks then spooned the vegetables over it.
