  • 4 inches dried kombu (strip of)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 small onion (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (chopped)
  • 1 piece fresh turmeric (peeled and minced, you can also use 1/2 tsp dried turmeric)
  • 1 inch fresh ginger (piece, peeled and minced)
  • 2 carrots (peeled and diced)
  • 2 stalks celery (diced)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander
  • salt (to taste, start with 1/2 tsp and go from there)
  • chopped fresh cilantro
