  • 1 3/4 pounds cabbage (about 1/2 large head, roughly sliced)
  • 1 pound ground beef (or lamb)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 medium egg (beaten)
  • 1 pound potatoes
  • 2 cups beef stock

    Directions

    1. Preheat the oven to 325°F. Blanch the cabbage in boiling water for 1 minute. Drain thoroughly.
    2. Mix together the meat, onion, egg and a little salt and pepper. Slice the potatoes as thinly as possible and scatter half in the base of a shallow ovenproof dish. Layer the cabbage and meat mixture on top and finish with a layer of potatoes. Season with salt and pepper.
    3. Pour the stock on top and cover with foil. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 40-50 minutes until the potatoes are tender and pale golden.
