- 14 oz. beef (thinly sliced, any good quality tender cut suitable for grilling, Note 1)
- 1 scallion (/shallot stem, green and white part separated, both finely sliced, Note 2)
- 1/2 onion (large, brown, yellow or white, peeled and thinly sliced)
- 1/2 medium carrot (peeled, cut vertically then cut into thin slices on the diagonal)
- 1 Tbsp. cooking oil (I use peanut or vegetable oil)
- 1/2 Tbsp. sesame seeds
- 3 Tbsp. soy sauce (ordinary, I use Kikkoman)
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp. mirin (Note 3)
- 1/2 Tbsp. sesame oil
- 2 Tbsp. onion (grated, brown, white or yellow)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 3 Tbsp. red apple (grated, not green - they are too tart OR nashi pears)
- 1/2 tsp. minced ginger
- black pepper

Absolutely loved it, my family have asked me to make it again. I added Bird Eye Chillies to the marinade as like a bit of heat and an fried egg on top.

Really easy to make could do with adding some green veg to it to mix it up

I love this recipe but found it a little sweet for my taste. I will definitely make again and cut the sugar amount in half.

easy to make, tasted good. i used a larger joint and adjusted the amount of sauce, used enough for three of us and saved the rest for lunch wraps!

2017-02-13. Used white wine in the place of mirin. Great flavour quite distinct. The texture was not the same as other stir fry sauces but good overal. I liked the easiness of it
