Description
A typical casserole recipe is a one-dish meal that’s baked in an oven (or, in some cases, a microwave). A casserole recipe usually calls for a combination of meat, cheese, and vegetables, and is cooked in an oven-safe vessel that also happens to be called a casserole. So that’s the gist of how this dish got its name. How the Italian breakfast casserole got its name is pretty easy, too. This recipe calls for using a blend of Italian cheeses, Italian-spiced pork sausage, and vegetables that are staples in Italian cuisine…
You might think that since casseroles were designed to be one-dish meals, that they’re all really easy to make. That’s not necessarily true. But our Italian sausage casserole is really easy to make and is not one of those “make-ahead” recipes. A “make-ahead” casserole refers to a recipe that calls for letting the ingredients rest overnight so the flavors blend together better.
When it comes to making a casserole that’s inspired by Italian cuisine, there are a few main ingredients that you should have on hand, including a blend of cheeses, such as Parmesan, Ramano, mozzarella and Provolone, plus tomatoes, green peppers and sausage.
Using Jimmy Dean® Italian Premium Pork Sausage, infused with real Italian spices will add authenticity to your breakfast casserole. The first thing you’ll want to say when you wake up to an Italian breakfast casserole with sausage is Buongiorno!
