- 1 medium onion (finely diced)
- 1/2 red chili (long, diced or sliced, can be omitted)
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2 cloves garlic (finely diced)
- 1 medium carrot (diced into small cubes)
- 400 mL tomatoes (chopped tinned, or tomato passata)
- 1 Tbsp. soy sauce (or Tamari sauce)
- 1 Tbsp. ketchup
- 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 stock cube (onion, or 2 tablespoons onion soup mix)
- 1 tsp. smoked paprika (or 1+1/2 regular)
- 1/2 tsp. paprika powder
- 1/2 tsp. allspice (powder)
- 2 bay leaves
