I had honey fried chicken at a jazz club in NYC and was dying to taste it again. I found this recipe and the photos looked lovely. I followed it exactly as written, but the results were not very good. After sitting for an hour as instructed, the batter was way too thick to coat the chicken. It was almost like dough and wouldn't stick. I added more water to thin it out so it could be usable. The first two drumsticks had a super thick crust so I thinned the batter out with even more water for the rest of the drumsticks. After frying, the crust was still too thick and chewy. I will say that the flavors were a nice blend of herbs, vinegar, honey, and seasonings. The kitchen smelled fabulous when I was cooking. But crispy skin is the best part of fried chicken so if I'm going to eat something that is a thousand calories, the crust better be amazing. I really wanted to love this recipe, but unfortunately, I was disappointed and will continue to search for another recipe (or go back to NY to that jazz club again...)
