I always try the recipe as written the first time, will leave out the red pepper next time.
The heat cancels out the flavor to me. Also, it doesnt seem to meld right, as ham and spicey enough to make my nose run doesnt really make a good pair.
If you're spice sensative it will be an awesome recipe without the pepper.

I cook for my parents. This was a home run. They finished a 13x9 pan in less than 24 hrs!!

Delicious! Spicier than I was expecting though. Next time I will use less cayenne so my children will eat it.

It was delicious but I had to par boil the potatoes and even then they didn’t cook in an hour. I also used pepper jack cheese and also added the cheese to the sauce. I will definitely make again!
