- 4 slices bread (crusty artisan-style, or classically, baguette)
- 4 oz. Gruyere cheese (cave-aged, grated)
- 2 Tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese (optional, to top the Gruyere)
- dry sherry (A splash of, optional)
- chives (A sprinkle of chopped, for color and garnish, optional)
