    I used an alternative to the salsa and then added cheese and hot salsa for some spice along with the smoky flavor. Ate with some tortilla chips. Excellent.

    Good. I used canned beans and regular salsa and then added Worcestershire sauce. I ate it with cheese and a tortilla which made it even better.

    Delish! This was the 2nd time I make it, this time I doubled the amount of salsa Lizano. Even my picky eaters went for seconds.

    Turned out great I used two cans of black beans in their liquid I also was not able to find Salsa Lazano in the store, but did compare the ingredients to other condiments and Yellowbird Serrano Condiment was almost spot on the same

    Very good! Used a fair amount of Worcestershire sauce instead of the salsa and added vegetable stock.

    This was so tasty! I didn’t have the salsa lizano but it suggested Worcestershire sauce I substituted with Annie’s vegan Worcestershire sauce and some Jamaican hot sauce delicious!

    As a professional chef, I can’t just follow a recipe...so I substituted a head of roasted garlic for the tiny bit of garlic in the recipe and made my own lizano using chipotle peppers. Oh and I subbed honey for molasses because my wife went “ew!” Upon its mention. I don’t know about authentic but it sure was delicious!

    It tastes good, but my Nicaraguan friend said it's not a real gallo pinto. The real one should not have bell pepper, salsa daoce and the onion should not stay in the sauce. it should be taken out. i also visited Costa Rica and never saw them cooking it like this..

    We do make this quite often and we do have Salsa Lizano. But for those of you that can’t find it, the closest thing we’ve found to Lizano is A1 Sauce.

    We love this recipe and served it on the side of pan seared salmon, and a big dollop of guac. We don’t have the salsa so winged it with whatever was in the cupboard (soya sauce, tabasco and cayenne) and served our own salsa on the side. Delish!

    Great! I cooked the beans with a lot of seasoning which helped add more flavor - make flavorful beans at home for this, it won’t taste as good with canned!

    Tasted amazing. I didn’t have the special salsa, so I used Tajin Seasoning (I found it at Aldi), some paprika, and a little chili powder. You don’t want to use regular salsa, because this will make it taste more Mexican than Costa Rican. It would turn out fine though, just the taste would be off. You will need to add extra water at the end to keep it from sticking. Overall very amazing!

    Loved it, but I didn’t have salsa Lizano. Instead I used veg oxo cube, soy sauce, hot chipotle flakes, smoked paprika, cumin and Cajun. Added a couple of chopped tomatoes right at the end so they were warmed through and soft but still light and not broken down, squeeze of lime too
