  • 8 ounces ground pork
  • 8 ounces ground chicken
  • 1 green onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 clove garlic (crushed)
  • 1 tablespoon plum sauce (plus additional, to serve)
  • 1/2 teaspoon chinese five spice powder
  • 36 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg white (lightly beaten)
  • vegetable oil (to deep-fry)

    Directions

    1. Mix ground pork and chicken, onion, garlic, plum sauce and spice in a large bowl.
    2. Place a wonton wrapper on a flat work surface. Spoon 2 tsp pork mixture onto center. Brush edges with egg white. Lift up wrapper corners; pinch to form a pouch enclosing filling. Place on a plate.
    3. Pour oil into a wok or heavy-bottomed saucepan to 2 inch depth. Heat on high heat (oil is ready when a cube of bread crisps quickly without absorbing oil). Deep-fry wontons, in batches, for 2 mins or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a metal slotted spoon to transfer to a plate lined with paper towels. Serve wontons with additional plum sauce.
