- 1/2 cup butter (just softened, and cut into chunks, plus extra for greasing the pan)
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal (coarse)
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 cups milk (or buttermilk, I prefer the flavor from buttermilk)
- 8 oz. figs (fresh, stemmed and halved)
