- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp. fine salt
- 1/3 cup whole milk
- 1/2 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (to dissolve yeast; 110˚ to 115˚F)
- 2 large eggs (slightly beaten)
- 3 3/4 cups all purpose flour (spooned to cup, then leveled)
- vegetable oil (for frying Beignets)
- powdered sugar (for dusting Beignets)
- balsamic reduction (Blackberry, makes about 1 cup)
- 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar (good quality)
- 2 cups blackberries
- 2 Tbsp. dark brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp. coarse salt
- 1 tsp. lemon zest (fresh)
- 2 whole star anise
