- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper (depending on how strong you’d like it; optional, but I loved it)
- 1 stick butter (8 tablespoons, or 113 grams, frozen or nearly frozen, divided)
- 4 oz. goat cheese (aged if you can get it, my favorite is this ash-ripened Bonne Bouche from Vermont Creamery and cut into small pieces, about ⅓ to ½ cup pieces, plus more for serving)
- 1/2 cup figs (diced, fresh or dried)
- 3/4 cup buttermilk (or ½ cup Greek yogurt and ¼ cup milk, whisked until smooth, plus more for brushing, if desired)
- 2 Tbsp. honey
