- 4 shiitake (or winter mushrooms – soaked and cut into thin slices)
- 2 Tbsp. soya sauce (light soya)
- 2 Tbsp. oyster sauce
- 1 Tbsp. sesame oil
- 1/2 cup dark soya sauce
- 1/2 cup Chinese cooking wine
- 1 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
- 1 tsp. 5-spice powder
- 1 rock sugar (medium size, or 5 tablespoons of castor sugar)
- 6 hard boiled eggs (shelled)
- cooked rice
- vegetables (Some green, blanched with hot water)
- daikon (Some Japanese, for Sushi preparation, optional)
- minced meat (Slow cooker for braising the)
- 3 Tbsp. corn flour (mixed with 2-3 tablespoons of water, for thickening of gravy)
