This recipe on the Yummly app calls for
1 1/2 Tablespoons of black pepper.
The attached blog calls for 1 1/2 teaspoons of black pepper, which would explain other reviewers complaints of over pepperiness. Following the blog version, I added 1 teaspoon, let it simmer a minute or two, gave it a taste, and then added the other 1/2 teaspoon suggested. Also used a fifty/ fifty blend of butter and bacon drippings. It turned out very good. My go to now for biscuits and gravy breakfasts.

It turned out with the consistency of gravy, which was great. Flavor wise, well, it tasted a lot like flour. Since it is roux-based I shouldnt be surprised, just prepare for it. I had to use a lot more pepper than reccomended.
