- 1/2 cup butter (or margarine, softened)
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 3 eggs (room temperature)
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup cocoa
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 cups half-and-half (you may substitute heavy cream or whole milk, if you prefer– each will change the texture slightly, but either one will work just fine)
- 3/4 cup butter (or margarine, softened)

- 5 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 2 1/2 Tbsp. half-and-half
