  • 5 ounces milk chocolate (finely chopped)
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter (at room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs (at room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup self-raising flour (sifted)
  • 2 teaspoons grated orange zest (finely)

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and line a 8 x 4 inch loaf pan.
    2. Melt 2 oz of chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water, stirring often, until melted and smooth. Remove from heat.
    3. Using an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in flour.
    4. Stir one-third of batter into chocolate. Stir orange zest into remaining batter. Drop alternate spoonfuls of orange and chocolate mixtures in pan. Gently swirl with a knife for marbled effect. Bake for 30 mins, until a skewer inserted comes out clean. Turn onto a wire rack to cool.
    5. Place remaining chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water, stirring until melted and smooth. Spread chocolate over cake. Allow to set before slicing.
