  • 1 pound skirt steak (or flank)
  • 12 corn tortillas
  • 3 lime (juiced, if your limes aren't particularly juicy, add another one)
  • 1 orange (juiced)
  • 1/4 cup oil (I used olive oil)
  • 6 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 jalapeno chilies (finely chopped, remove vien and seeds if you don't want it too spicy)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon chile powder (I like chipotle chili powder)
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • black pepper (several grinds of fresh)
  • 3/4 cup chopped cilantro fresh (about a large handful)
  • chopped cilantro
  • white onion (diced, grilled onions would be yummy too!)
  • lime wedges
  • avocado (slices)
  • pico de gallo

    It was good - I think I may have put too much lime juice in it. I also subbed diced green chilies instead of the jalepeno to cut down on the heat for the family.

    It was absolutely delicious, everyone loved it. This is a definite keeper. I’m thinking of using the marinade on other cuts of meat because it tenderizes wonderfully, not to mention the flavor!

    I made a variation. I trimmed a chuck roast of fat and bones, pkaced in slow cooker. Added marinade and 1 cup water. Cooked on high 4.5 to 5 hours. Drained liquid, shredded the meat. Delicious!

    Fabulous! I used tenderized sirloin steaks and cut it super thin, and omitted the jalapeño, marinated for 8 hours and grilled it, not to long just enough to get nice grill marks, served with just cilantro and onion with limes, delicious we didn’t have any leftovers, will make again!

    I lived in the border states for over thirty years and go to Mexico frequently. Tried this recipe in the hope I could experience the same flavors I’m used to but this recipe wasn’t even close. I followed the recipe exactly and did cook the meat on the outside grill but the mariachis sure weren’t playing when we ate it. Disappointed!

    This was pretty good, but I didn’t think the beef had much flavor. I only marinaded it for 4 hours though. Next time I will tenderize the meat first and marinate the beef longer.

    My husband had just come home from being In California for a month and he raved about the street tacos over there. I was determined to duplicate them when he got home. He said these were just as good!! We did ours with chicken and they were AMAZING!!! This may become a weekly meal!!

    Delicious. Added a bit more salt to the steak, but I'm a salt-lover. Recommend corn tortillas over flour, grilling or pain frying (just with a bit of spray oil or butter), and using two tortillas per taco to hold the ingredients without everything falling apart. My kids also use the waffle maker to make quesadillas out of the filling: - One flour tortilla, butter one side, place buttered side down on waffle maker - Layer of cheese - Layer of carne asada + garnishes - Layer of cheese - Second flour tortilla, butter on one side, butter side up - Close waffle maker, cook for 2-5m, depending on how hot your waffle maker is * Note * butter on tortillas should be pretty light, otherwise they get a little soggy instead of crisping up. It's possible you might not even want to butter the tortillas - depending on how easily things stick to your waffle iron. Obviously, you could also make these quesadillas in a skillet and just flip them to get both sides.

    Used a reduced version and mixed in ground beef (1 juiced lime, one half the spices and herbs, 2 minced cloves of garlic). Very flavorful!

    Fabulous! I made this with Morning Stars vegetarian beef strips! I’ll make this again. I had it with some yellow rice, tortilla chips and homemade salsa!
