- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar (or packed light)
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup apple (peeled and chopped, I use Granny Smith*)
- coarse sugar (optional for topping:)
- 1/2 cup salted caramel (store-bought or homemade)
