I have made these bars multiple times and they are a huge hit. Usually, I follow the Paula Deen recipe (the only difference is there is less cream cheese filling) because I like it with a layer that isn't as thick. There is no right or wrong way - it all depends on your personal preference. Sometimes I make these bars with only granny smith but other times I make them with a variety of apples and it turns out great either way. Another change I make is with the streusel topping. I ALWAYS make extra because I feel that there is never enough but again, it all depends on your personal preference.
