- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. fine salt
- 1 tsp. anise seeds (or fennel seeds, divided use, add a pinch of ground star anise, if you have any, if just using the fennel – toasted in a small pan and crushed with a pestle and mortar or in a spice mill *)
- 100 grams brown sugar (I like muscovado, divided use**)
- 112 mL almond (1/2 cup or other milk, use 75ml/ 1/3 cup if using all plain flour; teff is a thirsty flour)
- 1 egg
- 4 Tbsp. liquid
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 3 Tbsp. olive oil (divided use)
