This is a lot like the old school soup that my Mom made when we were growing up. I added more water because I think that my leftover soup will be soaked up by the rice & barley. I used both barley and rice. I just split the 1 c. In half. I always get carried away with garlic and pepper. So, I loved this soup with my extra spice.
