i made this without the bacon and it was a HIT. so much that there was none left! cannot wait to make this again and again. also used pecan pralines so didnt need the sugar/butter part and they were great!

I have been making yams for my family at Thanksgiving for the past three years. Success rate was 2 out of 3. This year I sought out a few different, bolder recipies and this is one of the top two that caught my eye. I did a pilot run of the dish at my office potluck today. Everybody loved it! The sage, bacon, pecans, bourbon, and cayanne pepper are genious. Neither of them clashes with the other.
Instead of 4 medium sweet potatoes, I used 4 sm/med and one large (since the brown sugar seemed to overpower the color).
I may try another recipe with bourbon in it, but this one is definitely a winner.
