i didn't follow recipe exactly but gave 4 stars for a great base recipe 0and some really great techniques: caramelizing the heck out of lots of onions for a hearty broth and making a paste of fat and flour for a lump-free thickener (like an uncooked roux). i added the rosemary and bay but not sure if i liked their contributions and i was fresh out of juniper berries. surprisingly, recipe does not call for thyme or Worcestershire sauce but i added them because i like them in my stew.
