- 1 onion (medium, sliced)
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice (freshly-squeezed)
- 1 tsp. worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tbsp. tomato paste
- 2 bay leaves (dried)
- coarse salt
- freshly ground pepper (to taste)
- 1 tsp. granulated sugar
- 1/8 tsp. ground allspice (or ground cloves)
- 1/2 tsp. paprika
- 3 cups beef stock (2 to, or broth, either homemade or store bought, heated)
- 6 carrots (peeled and sliced diagonally into 1-inch cubes)
- 1 lb. pearl onions (small white)
- 6 potatoes (cubed)
- 1 lb. mushrooms (stems discarded and caps thickly sliced**)
- egg noodles (cooked, optional)
- crusty bread (Thick, optional)
- parsley (garnish, optional)
