- 1 cup buttermilk (shaken)
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 extra-large eggs (at room temperature)
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup hot coffee (freshly brewed)
- chocolate frosting (see recipe)
- 6 oz. semisweet chocolate (good, such as Callebaut)
- 1/2 lb. unsalted butter (at room temperature)
- 1 large egg yolk (extra-, at room temperature)
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups sugar (sifted confectioners’)
- 1 Tbsp. instant coffee powder

This is my go-to recipe for choc cake. It's not too light, not too dense, a lot of chocolate flavour and just yummy. I only use 1.5 cups of sugar cos my buttercream was a tad sweet so it's a nice balance. The coffee adds depth to the chocolate. You might be suprise that the batter is watery but that's how it shud be.
