I made this with the highest if expectations, but I really did not like the texture of the sauce....it was grainy. I was hoping it would be creamy, but no. Perhaps I did something wrong? Will not make again.

Really flavorful!! However, I substituted onion powder for onions because I simply didn’t feel like cutting them up. I also mixed Monterey Jack cheese with the cheddar. Great recipe!!

I followed the recipe except 2 things. I used a sleeve of Ritz crumbled instead of panko and added a few slices of top quality black peppered ham finely chopped into the sauce after heating.

This is very close to the version that is on the Food Network website. That version steeps bay leaf in the milk/onion mixture. The onion is added after the milk and the mustard is in the roux from the start. I usually add diced ham to it.
