- 1/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup cane sugar
- 1 Tbsp. rice wine (can substitute dry sherry)
- 1 Tbsp. sambal oelek (use more or less according to taste)
- 2 tsp. red chili flakes (dried, these are very hot, start with less and add more if desired)
- 1 1/2 tsp. minced garlic (finely)
- 1 tsp. minced ginger (finely)
- 1 tsp. tamari sauce (use tamari for gluten free)
- 2 tsp. cornstarch (dissolved in 1 tablespoon water, the sauce will thicken more once cooled)
- 2 drops red food coloring (natural, optional)
