- freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
- 2 heads romaine hearts (torn into 10 strips)
- parmigiano reggiano cheese (Freshly grated, to taste)
- anchovy fillets (Whole, for garnish, optional)
- 1/8 cup capers
- 2 cups oil (for frying)
- 1 loaf Italian bread
