- 4 tart apples (large, like Granny Smith, cored and sliced into 1/8 inch thick slices, no need to peel them, unless you want to)
- 3 Tbsp. unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider
- 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
- 3 cups all purpose flour (I use King Arthur)
- 2 cups dark brown sugar
- 2 large eggs (room temperature)
- 2 1/4 cups applesauce (recipe above – I just used all the applesauce without measuring!)
- 8 oz. unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. fine sea salt
- 1 1/2 tsp. canela
- 1 pinch ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1 lemon
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1/2 cup apple cider
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
